Description: An Honors Program introduction to the movies as an object of academic inquiry. Covers strategies for analyzing the formal elements (mise-en-scene, the shot, editing, and sound) and narrative structures of film. Provides instruction on discussing, researching, and writing about film as a complex form of creative expression rooted within history, society, and culture. Discussion is supported by American and international examples of feature, documentary, and experimental film. This honors course offers an enriched experience for accelerated students through limited class size, seminar format, focus on primary texts, and application of higher level critical thinking skills. Students may not receive credit for both FST-1 and FST-1H. 54 hours lecture. (Letter Grade, or Pass/No Pass option.)
