Description: An introduction to television as an object of academic inquiry. Covers strategies for analyzing television's formal elements, including its stylistic conventions; primary genres; evolving modes of production, distribution, and exhibition; and various critical methodologies. Provides instruction for writing about television as a complex form of creative expression rooted within history, society, and culture. Discussion is supported by a survey of American and international television examples. 54 hours lecture. (Letter Grade, or Pass/No Pass option.)
